Areas of focus since taking office include:
- Establishing and leading the Statewide Opioid Task Force – which now has more than 400 members – and the Georgia Anti-Gang Network – which is focused on strengthening multi-jurisdictional investigations and prosecutions.
- Helping to prevent older, at-risk adults from falling victim to scams, AG Carr created the Georgia Consumer Protection Guide for Older Adults.
- Creating the state’s first-ever Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit at the Department of Law. Under his leadership, the unit works with statewide partners to aggressively combat buyers and traffickers.
Professional background: Chris Carr was appointed Attorney General by Governor Nathan Deal in October 2016 after former AG Sam Olens resigned. He was then elected to the position in November 2018 and again in 2022. AG Carr previously served as Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development under Governor Deal from 2013-2016. He also served as Chief of Staff for US Senator Johnny Isakson and as Vice President and General Counsel for the Georgia Public Policy Foundation. AG Carr began his law career at Georgia-Pacific, then worked as an associate at Alston & Bird LLP.
Education: AG Carr graduate from the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business and Lumpkin School of Law.
Personal: AG Carr and his wife, Joan, have two daughters and live in Dunwoody.
