Areas of focus since taking office have included:
- Overseeing the Child Exploitation and Fugitive Apprehension Unit, which works to keep Texas children and communities safe by arresting sexual predators/child pornographers and bringing them to justice.
- Forming the Human Trafficking and Transnational/Organized Crime Section (HTTOC), tasked with combating human trafficking across Texas. As designated by the Texas Legislature in Senate Bill 72, the Office of the Attorney General also leads the Human Trafficking Prevention Coordinating Council, which is tasked with creating a strategic plan to halt and prevent human trafficking in Texas.
- Filing suit against energy company Griddy, LLC for violating the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act through false, misleading, and deceptive advertising and marketing to Texan consumers during and after an unexpectedly harsh winter storm.
Professional background: Prior to becoming Attorney General of Texas in 2015, AG Paxton’s public service career began when he was elected to the Texas House of Representatives from 2003-2013 and the Texas State Senate from 2013-2015. Previously, AG Paxton worked as an attorney in private practice and as in-house legal counsel with J.C. Penney.
Education: AG Paxton received a B.S. in psychology from Baylor University, an M.B.A. from Hankamer School of Business, and his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
Personal: AG Paxton and his wife, Angela, a Texas State Senator, met while they were students at Baylor. The Paxtons have four children: Tucker, Abby, Mattie, and Katie.
