Areas of focus since taking office have included:
- Coordinating the Overdose Prevention Through Intensive Outreach Naloxone and Safety (OPTIONS) initiative with the Maine Office of Behavioral Health (OBH) to improve the health of Mainers using substances through harm reduction strategies, helping them on the road to recovery, and dramatically reducing the number of fatal and non-fatal drug overdoses.
- Creating the Deadly Force Review Panel that investigates Maine police officers’ use of deadly force to determine whether officers were legally justified in firing their service weapons.
- Encouraging crime victims to take advantage of the resources available to them, such as the Victims’ Compensation Fund housed within the AGO, and the resource centers of the Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence.
Professional background: AG Frey was re-elected in a joint convention of the Maine House and Senate to a second term as Maine’s 58th Attorney General in December 2020 and 2022. Prior to becoming AG, General Frey worked in private practice, focusing on criminal defense and family law, and served three terms in the Maine House of Representatives from 2012 to 2018. In the legislature, he was a member of the legislature’s Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee.
Education: AG Frey earned a B.A. in politics from Saint Anselm College, where he served as student body president. He received his J.D. from Roger Williams University School of Law.
Personal: AG Frey was born in Bangor, ME, but was raised in Dixmont, ME. He currently resides in Bangor.
