- Leading a nationwide investigation into opioid manufacturers and distributors.
- Defending the state laws in cases of federal encroachment including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Waters of the United States Rule.
- Ensuring teachers and children have access to resources to encourage smart buying decisions.
Professional background: Herbert Slatery III was appointed by the Tennessee Supreme Court in 2014 to serve an eight-year term as attorney general and reporter. Prior to his appointment, AG Slatery served as chief legal counsel to Governor Bill Haslam, and worked as an attorney in private practice at a Knoxville firm for 30 years. He also served as chairman and director of the Public Building Authority of Knox County and Knoxville.
Education: AG Slatery received his B.A. from the University of Virginia and his J.D. from the University of Tennessee.
Personal: AG Slatery is a Knoxville native. He is married to his wife, Cary, and they have two children.
