FTC Issues $2.4 Million in Refunds Following Settlement with Online Coaching Company

  • The FTC is sending more than $2.4 million in refund payments to nearly 2,000 consumers who purchased online coaching or mentoring programs from Lurn, Inc.
  • These refunds are part of a settlement the Commission reached with Lurn to resolve allegations that the company and its affiliates violated the FTC Act and the Telemarketing and Consumer Fraud and Abuse Prevention Act by making deceptive claims about the amount of money consumers could make through their coaching services.
  • We have previously reported on the FTC’s settlement with Lurn, which, in addition to mandating consumer refund payments, required Lurn to inform consumers about the settlement and prohibited the company from making deceptive earnings claims or otherwise engaging in similar deceptive practices.
