- The bipartisan Anti-Robocall Multistate Litigation Task Force—consisting of 51 AGs—issued warning letters to nine Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) providers that they may be transmitting illegal robocall traffic in violation of the Telemarketing Sales Rule, Telephone Consumer Protection Act, Truth in Caller ID Act, and state consumer protection laws.
- In the letters, the Task Force allege that the companies are responsible for funneling high-volume robocall traffic and warn that they could be liable for damages, civil penalties, injunctions, and other legal remedies under both federal and state laws.
- The Task Force requests that the companies investigate any suspected illegal call traffic.
- We have previously reported on the Task Force’s warning letters sent to iDentidad Advertising Development LLC, d/b/a iDentidad Telecom and to eight other VoIP providers regarding concerns over illegal robocall traffic, and combatting robocalls was discussed at a recent meeting of the National Association of Attorneys General.
