Walgreens Settles With 50 AGs and U.S. DOJ Over Allegedly Billing for Uncollected Prescriptions

  • A bipartisan coalition of 50 AGs settled with Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. and Walgreen Co. (collectively, “Walgreens”) to resolve allegations that they billed federal and state government health care programs for prescriptions that were never picked up, in violation of the federal False Claims Act.
  • According to the settlement agreement, Walgreens allegedly billed Medicare, Medicaid, and other government health care programs for prescriptions that were never picked up.
  • Under the terms of the agreements, Walgreens previously paid $66.3 million in restitution, and will pay $31.5 million to the U.S. and the states.
  • The U.S. DOJ previously separately settled with Walgreens.
